Gordon & Alison at Airth Castle
I had been looking forward to this wedding for a while as Alison’s parents’ lived two doors down from me when I was growing up so it was absolutely brilliant to see them all again 
The venue was Airth Castle which really is a lovely place to get married. Both Gordon and Alison were staying at the hotel which was great as it gave me the opportunity to capture a bit of the groom getting prepared as well, although Gordon would probably disagree 
The ceremony was in the castle itself and it really is a fabulous backdrop in which to get married. As the weather was a tad wild shall we say we photographed the bride and groom portraits inside. There are no shortage of places to go for portraits in Airth Castle as it really is stunning inside.
There was a brief lull in the monsoon and this gave Gordon and Alison the chance to lead their wedding party across to the reception venue. As usual the speeches were full of every emotion and kudos to both Gordon and his brother (best man) Struan who managed to get through their emotions and deliver great heartfelt speeches.
Massive congratulations to both Gordon and Alison, I’m sure you’ll both be very happy together

Howie
It was off to West Linton this time to photograph little Howie, who had only recently turned one. The weather was absolutely brilliant, with blazing sunshine and not a breath of wind. So that Howie could get used to me and the camera we started off inside Leigh and Graeme’s fabulous house which is set right on a green and next to the river running through West Linton. After a few shots inside we then headed out to the green and let Howie loose on the grass. He had a great time playing away and particularly loved being pulled around in his cart.

The best part of being a photographer, in my opinion, is that you get the chance to meet so many great people. This shoot was no different as I had the pleasure of meeting little Isla and her mum and dad Laura and Fraser. As usual I was made so welcome and simply enjoyed photographing a very happy family.
The way I photograph children is to make them as comfortable as possible doing things they normally do and then just wait for their personalty to shine through. I didn’t have to wait long with little Isla however, she was full of smiles and great expressions right from the off which makes my job pretty easy. We had a very minor blip of 5 seconds of tears but I like to get these shots as well, after all, children don’t smile all the time do they

It was back to The Vu in Bathgate again for me on this wedding and we were lucky to miss the rain by the skin of our teeth. The day had started at Raymond & Samantha’s house in Glasgow. With Samantha having six bridesmaids there was a lot going on to photograph.
The ceremony itself was in The Vu and was hosted by the best Minister I have ever seen in my life. Rev James Liddle is a true legend and somebody I would highly recommend. For him the day was all about the couple and making them feel special. Not every celebrant is like that and it was so refreshing to see someone get so involved. At one point he popped up in front of my lens as I was photographing Raymond and Samantha singing ‘Give me joy in my heart’ at the top of his voice almost giving me a heart attack. You can guess that picture below I’m sure
After the ceremony we then managed outside for a few bride & groom portraits before it was time for the speeches and then meal.

James & Rod at the New Lanark Mill Hotel
I see it is as an absolute privilege to photograph the biggest day in a couple’s lives especially when you have a couple as brilliant as James and Rod. Their fantastic day started in the riverside apartments at the fabulous New Lanark Mill Hotel and was as laid back as you can get. Both James and Rod got ready there with their family and friends in a party atmosphere which made photographing proceedings very easy for me. I wasn’t made to feel like a photographer on the day, I was made to feel like one of their close friends which means a lot to me. The fact I was welcomed so warmly by all that day just goes to show how much love surrounds these guys.
We took full advantage of the fact the guys had chosen to see each other and indeed celebrate the day together by getting the portraits of them done just prior to the ceremony so that James and Rod could fully enjoy their day without having to stand being photographed by my ugly mug. They guys looked fantastic in their kilts supplied by MacDonald Kilt Makers.
After the totally laid back morning the ceremony was held up in the Hotel itself and was brilliant. There was loads of laughter, tears and some beautiful singing which rounded off the day perfect day for James and Rod. I’ve photographed quite a few weddings now but for me James & Rod’s day was what a wedding should be about, friends, family and each other.
